Early bird available until 20 July

Join Louise as she unpacks the key features of explicit reading instruction, drawing on the principles of the New Zealand and Australian curricula. The workshop will highlight the role of guided practice within whole-class instruction to support students to practise new skills, with immediate teacher feedback.

A range of rich and engaging texts will be explored, giving students access to diverse content that connects across the curriculum and fosters a love of reading. Louise will also highlight the importance of using decodable texts to teach decoding.

Louise will share a clear, manageable weekly structure to explicitly teach and guide students to:

  • activate prior knowledge
  • learn and use new vocabulary
  • practise decoding and self-monitoring
  • develop reading fluency
  • retell and summarise texts
  • comprehend increasingly complex texts
  • engage in purposeful discussions about texts

Participants will receive:

  • sample weekly plans
  • whole-class and independent teaching resources

More information and a code to join this workshop will be emailed to attendees closer to the time.
