Many students can decode automatically and accurately but have little or no understanding of what they read. How can we support students to help themselves when meaning breaks down? This workshop takes current reading research and translates it into classroom practice.

This workshop will include:
• a brief overview of recent reading comprehension research and how it can be synthesised into realistic model of classroom practice.
• clarification of useful strategies
• a researched model for how to introduce and teach the strategies
• student activities that support and improve comprehension.
