Moving beyond reading fluency to teach comprehension and critical analysis using authentic texts

Reading fluency is an essential step in a reader’s journey, but it is not the destination.

In this practical workshop, Louise will explore how to move beyond reading fluency and support students to think deeply about what they read. She will unpack a flexible weekly structure for whole-class reading that includes the explicit teaching of vocabulary, comprehension and critical analysis using authentic texts. Throughout the workshop, she will make clear connections to the teaching guidance in both the New Zealand and Australian curricula.

Teachers can watch this workshop live or on demand at a later date.

More information and a code to join this workshop will be emailed to attendees approximately three days prior to the workshop.
