Focus: to support students to understand how the irregular verb ‘to be’ changes with tense and subject
In 2016, Deb Lawrence from Mountain Creek State School in Queensland sent us a great adaption of the Inside-outside Quick Write activity (page 113 of The Writing Book). She read The Wonkey Donkey by Craig Smith to a group of low writers in a Year 2 class, then got the students to do the Inside-outside Quick Write.
Deb's students were able to write compound sentences by using their Inside-outside activity sheets as a word bank. Refer to the student writing sample.
Check out The Writing Book for more engaging Quick write ideas.
