‘To be’ verb poster
If English is your first language, you probably haven’t consciously thought about this irregular verb as it is instinctive, but for second language learners, it can be very difficult to master. Teachers have found that explicitly teaching the different forms based on tense and subject can be helpful for students. It is also useful to make it clear it is a verb as it is very common and is not an action. It is also very common in a verb chain or verb phrase (is running, has been talking).
