Jo Franklin from Mt Roskill Primary used the Quick Write Setting T chart (page 124, The Writing Book) and an image from Jeannie Baker's book Window to inspire her students to write a setting description.
Refer to the link for information about the wordless picture book Window.
The Year 4 writing exemplars from Jo's class could be used as part of the lesson warm-up. Students could work in groups to read one of the exemplars and find the image that matches the setting description. They could also discuss the language features they used to match the setting description with the chosen illustration.
