Here are some book layout tips and strategies that can be used when setting up writing routines.
One idea we promote is making a title page for 'Quick writes' two-thirds of the way through the writing book. This means students have a dedicated space for shorter writing tasks.
Another idea is to leave a wide margin in writing books. Students can fold the page or rule a line. This creates space for re-crafting and also enables the teacher and students to give feedback right next to the section of text. Here is an example from Rebecca Bishop's 2016 class at Gladstone School. It includes teacher feedback, peer feedback and self-reflection.
