This writing activity is suitable for home or school and is a fun, collaborative activity that students could complete with their families.

Once a location has been selected or set by the teacher, the student goes for a walk and looks for words. They then record these words on a map. Seven or eight words is a good number to collect. The challenge is to then include all these words in a piece of writing and to make the ideas flow.

Younger students could locate objects and draw pictures. They could then create a story orally or write collaboratively with an adult or older sibling.
