In this 60-minute workshop, Sheena and Louise discuss creating a positive home environment for reading as well as sharing strategies for prompting and supporting students to self-monitor while reading. They also share ideas for fun reading-related activities that can be completed at home by students at all levels.

Are you concerned about students in your class who can decode but have little or no understanding of what they have read?  Current research indicates that we should be explicitly teaching reading comprehension strategies to students. This workshop takes this research and translates it into classroom practice and is based on Sheena’s experience of teaching strategies in a classroom.

Supporting 'at risk' writers

In this workshop Louise will identify the common sticking points for ‘at risk’ writers, explore effective mini lessons to teach high impact skills for writing, and review the writing lesson to ensure it meets the learning needs of ‘at risk’ writers.
